The Children at Charlottes Brightside, a Youth Club in New Brighton on Wirral, had a visit from local businessman Les Perry recently and were excited to meet and hear more about Les’s forthcoming adventure on the high seas, supporting Charlottes Brightside.
Les, owner of a successful Roofing Business on Wirral, is joining the Clipper Round The World Race a fleet of eleven 70-foot ocean racing yachts who race around the world in a 40,000 nautical mile endurance race. Les has been training hard and will join as a crew member when his yacht, named “Imagine Your Korea”, sets sail on the Southern Ocean Leg from South Africa across the Southern Ocean to Australia.
Seeing a great opportunity to support Charlottes Brightside, Les has created a flag with local businesses paying to have their business logo displayed. The 1.5m x 1m flag which will be photographed in both countries – providing images and a great storyline for further individual business promotions. But best of all, vital funds have been and will be raised for this superb charitable organisation in New Brighton.
Both sides of the flag have now been filled with sponsors, BUT, there is still time to donate directly to the cause, helping Les to raise as much money for Charlottes Brightside, who are raising funds for a brand-new enclosed Astro-Turf pitch, providing a safe, all-year-round area for the children to play on. For those wishing to donate, they have a Local Giving page at https://localgiving.org/charity/charlottesbrightside/ and welcome donations of any amount.
Les, in part of his ocean-going clothing, met with some of the children at Charlottes Brightside and was astounded at the interest shown by the children and the range of questions they asked. Un-prompted questions from the children included “Do you play rugby for England?” (a nod to the t-shirt Les was wearing – and no he doesn’t!), “Can you swim?”, “Are you worried?”, “How big is the boat?” and “How high will the waves be?” At the end of the meeting, Les was emotionally moved when all the children stood up and gave him a rousing cheer and enthusiastic round of applause – giving Les an extra boost for his difficult journey ahead.
Charlottes Brightside is a youth club, based in New Brighton, Wirral who support underprivileged children from around the area. The charity was established in 2011 in memory of Charlotte Churchill, a 19yr old young woman who passed away in April of the same year as a result of a tragic car accident.
Charlottes Brightside has very clear aims to help young people advance in life by providing a space for recreational and leisure time activities that improve their conditions of life and by providing support and activities to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
